Grand Bleu 2017

A bold yet refined experience in what Kekfrankos, the native Hungarian varietal, can become. This unique varietal reigns sumpreme in Eger and is a cousin to Gamay and Pinot Noir. Unlike our Blues, the Grand Bleu comes exclusively from our limestone terroir and requires little yield control and imparts unique minerality into this wine.

Tasting Notes

Concentrated aromas of nutmeg, allspice, black cherry, and tobacco. Flavors of plum, black cherry, and chocolate, which are tied together by balanced acidity and silky tannins.

Vineyard Notes

Nagy Eged is a Grand Cru terroir and the region's highest vineyard at 1500 feet. The soil here is primarily limestone and is steeply sloped, which varies drastically from all other vineyards in the area. Here a southern exposure and sparse soils create concentrated, mineral-rich wines worthy of lengthy cellar aging.

Pairings

Serves well with bigger, more complex dishes, mainly meat (beef, pork, lamb) - or chicken with a hearty sauce.
