“Life is too short for inferior food, wine and friends. I’ve been fortunate to experience world-class food and wine in superb surroundings around the globe, while also gaining wonderful friends. Nimrod Wines was established with that in mind. Please join us and let’s enjoy good things together!”
- Nimrod Kovacs
First introduced to fine wines as a young waiter, Nimrod Kovacs developed a lifelong appreciation for wine and its diversity around the world. After building a career in international business, he then retired to what seemed the next logical project -- building a winery. A winemaking renaissance was underway in his native Hungary, and Nimrod jumped at the chance to participate by founding Nimrod Kovacs Winery in 2009.
A series of adventures began when Nimrod, as a young man, fled his Soviet-ruled homeland by swimming to freedom across a section of the Adriatic Sea. He soon immigrated to the USA, where he became a waiter, learned English, and pursued a formal education. Several executive positions took him around the country, from Madison Avenue to Colorado, and then around the world. When the eastern European market opened up to free market commerce, he returned there to lead the area’s largest cable TV operation.
A love of history, combined with a natural curiosity about the art of crafting world-class wines, led Nimrod to Eger and its long tradition of winemaking. With great attention to quality and an eye for detail, Nimrod established his namesake winery and revitalized its historic cellars. Now spending his time between Eger, Budapest, and Denver, Nimrod takes great joy in introducing people to the world-class wines of Eger.
